Helpful to have ready

• Your town or village (permit rules differ a lot)
• Roughly how many feet of wall or dock
• What it's made of now (timber, vinyl, steel) and about when it was built
• A few photos: the face of the wall at low tide, the yard behind it, the dock and pilings
• Any old permits, and whether neighbors are replacing too
